Hours: Lusk Lock and Sprucevale areas are open one half hour before sunrise and one half hour after sunset, rest of the park is open 6am to 11pm daily. Visitors are permitted to actively engage in legitimate recreational activities outside these hours. If you have questions, call the park office.

On the ground

The park sits along the gorge of Little Beaver Creek, where steep walls, high rock cliffs, and numerous gentle rapids define the valley. The agency describes the Little Beaver Creek valley as geologically unique, noting it is the only stream valley in the United States, yet described, which shows evidence of four major glaciations. The park's natural features include a Sand Stone outcropping. Little Beaver Creek is also a canoeing destination, with swift currents and scenery through the gorge, though it is navigable only by paddling and has no swimming areas.

History runs through the park in the form of the Sandy and Beaver Canal, a 73-mile canal built in the mid-1800s that once contained 90 locks and 30 dams; remnants of it are found throughout the park today. Lusk's Lock, with its double-curved stone staircase, is described as the largest of these remains. Other named locks and mill sites include Gretchen's Lock, Grey's Lock, Lock 26, Lock 36, Vondergreen Lock, and Hambleton Mill. The Pioneer Village, operated by the Friends of Beaver Creek State Park volunteers, gathers a Trading Post gift shop, a water-powered Grist Mill, a Blacksmith Shop, a Chapel, a Covered Bridge, a Schoolhouse, a restored canal-era lock, and a Cabin; a one-lane bridge on Echo Dell Road cannot accommodate vehicles. On the trail network, the Orange Trail runs 7.22 miles and the North Country Trail - Blue segment runs 3.5 miles, among the named routes mapped through the park.
