Findley State Park

On the ground

The park's trails add up to approximately 16 miles, and the longest named route is the Thorn MTB Trail at 9.51 miles, open to both hikers and mountain bikers as conditions allow. Shorter named paths include the Walker Memorial Trail at 1.15 miles, the Spillway Trail at 0.97 miles, the Larch Trail at 0.73 miles, the Hickory Grove Trail at 0.67 miles, the Storybook Trail at 0.62 miles, the Wyandot Trail at 0.47 miles, the Lake Trail at 0.47 miles, the Buckeye Trail at 0.43 miles, the Creekbank Trail at 0.36 miles, and the Black Locust Trail at 0.23 miles. The Storybook Trail is a crushed stone path inside the campground featuring nature-themed books along the way, with a free Little Library at its start. The park's one listed historic feature is the Dam/Spillway, and the Spillway Trail runs along that area.

The Berea Sandstone that underlies the park is typically 10-40 feet thick elsewhere in Ohio but reaches more than 200 feet thick at South Amherst, north of the park, home to what the state describes as the largest and deepest sandstone quarries in the world. Anglers fish for largemouth bass, bluegill, and crappie under Ohio fishing regulations, with a valid license required for those 16 and older. Hand-powered vessels and boats with electric motors are permitted on the lake, with two boat ramps each including a kayak launch. The park's two 18-hole disc golf courses are free to play and, according to the state, rank in the top 10 in the nation.
