By using Verdant Traveler you agree to what follows. It is short, and the important part is the second section.

What this site is

A free reference directory of public parks in the United States, plus a set of guides about camping and travel. There is nothing to buy and no account to create. We are not affiliated with the National Park Service, the U.S. Geological Survey, or any state park agency, and nothing here is published on their behalf.

Park information is a starting point, not an authority

Park facts here are compiled from government sources — the National Park Service, the USGS Protected Areas Database, and individual state park agencies. We take care to report them faithfully and to say where each came from. But they are a snapshot, and conditions change faster than published data.

Hours, fees, closures, road and trail conditions, water availability, campsite counts and accessibility can all change without the source being updated. Before you travel:

• Check with the agency that runs the park. Every park page links to its official site for exactly this reason.
• Do not rely on this site for safety-critical decisions — weather, wildfire, road closures, water crossings, backcountry conditions or anything else where being wrong has consequences.

The information is provided as is, without warranty of accuracy, completeness or fitness for any purpose. Outdoor recreation carries real risk, and you are responsible for your own decisions and safety. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss, injury or damage arising from your use of this site or from anything you do after reading it.

Content and licensing

Three different things are mixed together on a park page, and they are not all ours:

• Government facts — names, designations, boundaries, acreage and similar data from federal and state agencies. These are public records and generally not subject to copyright.
• Photographs — licensed by the people who took them, mostly through Wikimedia Commons under Creative Commons terms, or public-domain images from federal agencies. Each photograph is credited with its author and licence on the page where it appears. Those rights belong to the photographer, not to us, and we cannot grant you permission to reuse them. If you want to use one, follow its own licence.
• Our writing — the guides and any editorial text — is ours, © 2026 Verdant Traveler. You are welcome to quote a passage with a link back. Please do not republish articles wholesale or copy the directory in bulk.

Acceptable use

Read it, link to it, quote it, tell people about it. Please do not attempt to disrupt the site, scrape it at a rate that degrades it for other people, or reuse the compiled directory as the basis of a competing listing service. If you want the underlying data, it is public — the sources are named on every page and on About, and you can go to them directly.

Links out

We link to agency websites, mapping services and other third parties. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or their practices; their own terms apply once you leave.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.

These terms are written to describe this site plainly and honestly. They are not legal advice and have not been reviewed by a lawyer. The governing-law and liability sections in particular are the kind of thing worth having counsel look at before you rely on them.
