We have driven past the sign to La Pine State Park many times. If you are just looking at the surrounding area while driving you would believe there wouldn't be much to see. However, that would be wrong. We finally took the road over to this park and found an oasis in the central Oregon desert area. La Pine State Park is located among lodgepole and ponderosa pines along the Deschutes River. Acquired between 1966 and 1981 by purchase from the Bureau of land Management and private land owners and by land exchange with the U. S. Forest Service. If you want to immerse yourself in a subalpine forest with that crisp high-Cascade air, then LaPine State Park is your destination. There is a quiet campground alongside the twisting Upper Deschutes River brimming with trout and nearby a legendary fly fishing spot. In summer, you'll have hiking, mountain biking, fishing and floating to choose from. Park Overview LaPine State Park occupies a scenic spot along the trout-filled Upper Deschutes River in a high desert subalpine forest. The quiet, shady campground connects to 14 miles of multi-use trails that follow both sides of the river and link key park landmarks. You could find plenty to fill your time right in the park, from hiking and mountain biking to fishing and floating. LaPine is also centrally situated for exploring the iconic landmarks of central Oregon, including the Deschutes National Forest, Newberry Crater and Lava River Cave.
