Built in the mid 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, Beaver Lake and its spillway is one of three lake/spillway combinations at Pocahontas State Park. Most of the trees surrounding the lake are hardwood-oak, maple, and poplar, but there are a few Loblolly pines as well.
