The hundred-year-old oak tree dominates the yard beside the historic Hillsman House which was built in the 1780s and used as a Federal Army field hospital during the Battles of Sailor’s Creek, April 6, 1865. Today, this National Historic Landmark is used for guided tours as visitors are able to step back in time to see how things looked and functioned during the late-18th century and 19th century.
